FEATURED INFORMATION The Park Hotel Built in 1910 at the end of the South Texas land rush, the Park Hotel is a model of Texas ingenuity and resourcefulness. The Park was constructed by a contractor and his sons who had relocated to Texas from Minnesota (transplanted Texans). Utilizing his patented "Hollow Block" stone, the two storied, pillared concrete structure was formed from sand gathered in the Medio Creek nearby and limestone gleaned from the earth on which it sits. But why an expansive hotel in the village of Tuleta, Texas? Again, its that Texas ingenuity and resourcefulness. Local land developers waged a massive marketing campaign in the early 1900s, Target market were northerners from Minnesota, Kansas, points east and west. Promotional literature of the period spoke of Bee County as a land flowing with milk and honey, where lemon and orange groves thrived and the weather was tropical all year long. Many believers came. One of those built the Park Hotel. Named "Park" for the picturesque setting of large live oak trees and vast expanse of native flowering plants, butterflies, and birds. The hotel grounds feature a winding path where interpretive, guided walks take place on Saturdays and by appointment. |
An antique and collectibles shoppe, which is normally open on Saturdays from 10AM to 6PM and by appointment, occupies most of the lower floor. An exhibit of Three Rivers Glass is available for viewing in the shoppe. Extended hours are offered during the summer and holidays. The hotel's owners' live in the hotel so appointments are easy to arrange. Group tours of the hotel and nature walk can be arranged by calling 361-375-2558. Customized activities are available for those interested in nature and history. The Park and grounds are available for rental to individuals and companies as a photo shoot location. Registered with the Texas Film Commission as a film and commercial location site, the building also carries a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark designation from the Texas Historical Commission. |
