built about 1870 of cypress and heart pine that came by steamer from Florida to
Saint Mary’s, then by oxcart to site. Kiln on ranch made caliche blocks for
chimneys. Good water well Country store made this a camp site for such
travelers and Mexican horse traders. A stage stop on San Antonio-Brownsville
Road until railroad came into area, 1886.
