Mayor's Speech
Good afternoon, ladies
and gentlemen! It is my pleasure to participate in this event in behalf of the
City of Beeville. I have been watching with interest the development of our new Coliseum,
with its new arena, remodeled buildings, and new plans for operations. As
always, I am interested in what is good for Beeville and our area, and I
recognize this new venue as a major step forward in our economic and community
development. I also see our new Coliseum
as a new and different program of services for our citizens, with the knowledge
that we now have a Coliseum and arena that is second to none in South Texas,
and which will draw many more kinds of entertainment than we have had in the
past. Our new Coliseum Administrator, Tani Mitchell, has assured us that all efforts will be made
to expand on the kinds of events scheduled not only for our local citizens but
for people in all of South Texas. This will have the double
benefit of better activities for our youth and adults, and also bring in
tourist dollars which will ultimately save local tax payer dollars. If everything goes as planned, we anticipate
the creation of new jobs, along with a significant increase in retail business
in Beeville and Bee County.
I would like to
recognize and thank the Bee County Judge and Commissioners for having the
foresight to plan and execute such a facility as this, and to tie to it a way to
administer it for maximum use by local citizens as well as State-wide
organizations and business concerns. In
my view, the new BeeCounty Coliseum is a win-win operation for Beeville and
Bee County, and I encourage your
participation and support.
