THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR SOUTH TEXAS.
.DAY ONE...TONIGHT
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF SOUTH TEXAS
TONIGHT. A STRONG UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL MOVE OUT OF NORTHERN
MEXICO INTO SOUTH TEXAS TONIGHT. THIS WILL PROVIDE ADDITIONAL
WINTRY PRECIPITATION. AREAS OF LIGHT SNOW AND SLEET ARE
EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THIS EVENING. ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO
REMAIN BELOW 1 INCH IN MOST LOCATIONS DUE TO RELATIVELY WARM GROUND
TEMPERATURES. HOWEVER...EXPOSED AREAS ON BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES MAY
SEE MORE ACCUMULATION. A FREEZE WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR TONIGHT AS
TEMPERATURES FALL INTO THE 20S OVER MUCH OF SOUTH TEXAS WITH
TEMPERATURES NEAR FREEZING ALONG THE IMMEDIATE COAST.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY
FREEZING TEMPERATURES WILL OCCUR AGAIN SATURDAY NIGHT AS HIGH
PRESSURE REMAINS OVER THE AREA. TEMPERATURES WILL DROP INTO THE
UPPER 20S TO NEAR 30 DEGREES IN MOST LOCATIONS EXCEPT THE IMMEDIATE
COAST. OTHERWISE...NO HAZARDOUS WEATHER IS EXPECTED THROUGH
THURSDAY.

COASTAL BEND AND RIO GRANDE PLAINS ESPECIALLY EAST OF INTERSTATE 35
THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. IN ADDITION...SOME HEAVY SNOWFALL WILL
OCCUR ALONG AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE 37 THROUGH THE PERIOD. SNOWFALL
RATES OF 1 TO 3 INCHES PER HOUR WILL BE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS
THROUGH 230 AM. AT MIDNIGHT...SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS ACROSS THE
REGION RANGED FROM 1 TO 4 INCHES ACROSS MUCH OF THE COASTAL BEND AND
WESTERN RIO GRANDE PLAINS WITH 5 TO 10 INCHES ACROSS AREAS ALONG
HIGHWAY 59 FROM VICTORIA TO GEORGE WEST...AND SOUTHWEST TO ALICE...
TILDEN AND FREER. AN ADDITIONAL 1 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW ARE POSSIBLE
ACROSS MUCH OF THE COASTAL BEND AND RIO GRANDE PLAINS THROUGH 230 AM.
NEARLY ALL ROADWAYS ARE ALREADY SNOW AND ICE COVERED ACROSS THE
REGION. LAW ENFORCEMENT HAS REPORTED MANY ACCIDENTS ACROSS THE REGION
AND TRAVEL ACROSS THE COASTAL BEND AND RIO GRANDE PLAINS FOR THE
REMAINDER OF THE NIGHT IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED AS THE SNOWFALL LASTS
WELL INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS.

ACCUMULATIONS OF 2-3 INCHES PER HOUR WILL BE POSSIBLE EAST OF
A LINE FROM PREMONT TO MATHIS TO GOLIAD THROUGH 3 AM.
AT 100 AM...SNOW FALL ACCUMULATIONS ACROSS THE REGION RANGED
FROM 3 TO 5 INCHES ACROSS THE COASTAL COUNTIES WITH 6 TO 10
INCHES ACROSS THE RIO GRANDE PLAINS NEAR SAN DIEGO TO TILDEN
AND NORTHEAST TO GOLIAD AND VICTORIA.
SNOW IS TAPERING OFF TO FLURRIES OVER THE WESTERN RIO GRANDE
PLAINS. SNOW WILL BEGIN TO DIMINISH OVER THE REST OF THE RIO
GRANDE PLAINS AFTER 2 AM...BUT THE SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH
AROUND 8 AM ACROSS EASTERN SECTIONS OF THE COASTAL BEND.
BEFORE THE SNOW ENDS...ACCUMULATIONS OVERNIGHT WILL APPROACH 4
TO 7 INCHES ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHERN COASTAL BEND WITH
8 TO 12 INCH TOTALS EXPECTED FOR NORTHERN SECTIONS OF THE COASTAL
BEND FROM GEORGE WEST TO VICTORIA. SNOW DRIFTS MAY EVEN APPROACH
18 INCHES TO 2 FEET IN THE VICTORIA CROSSROADS.
ALL ROADWAYS ARE SNOW AND ICE COVERED ACROSS THE REGION. LAW
ENFORCEMENT HAS REPORTED MANY ACCIDENTS ACROSS THE REGION AND
TRAVEL ACROSS THE COASTAL BEND AND RIO GRANDE PLAINS FOR THE
REMAINDER OF THE NIGHT IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED AS THE SLEET AND
SNOWFALL LAST WELL INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS.

A POWERFUL UPPER LEVEL LOW WILL CONTINUE TO CROSS THE REGION
OVERNIGHT AND RESULT IN OCCASIONAL SNOW. THE SNOW WILL OCCASIONALLY
FALL HEAVILY AT TIMES AND ACCUMULATE BETWEEN 5 AND 10 INCHES WITH
LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS WEST OF A PREMONT TO MATHIS TO DACOSTA LINE.
FOR POINTS FURTHER EAST...SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL RANGE BETWEEN 4 AND 8
INCHES NORTH OF INTERSTATE 37 AND BETWEEN 3 AND 5 INCHES SOUTH OF
INTERSTATE 37.
TEMPERATURES IN THE 20S AND A BRISK NORTH WIND WILL ALSO MAKE
CONDITIONS MORE HAZARDOUS WITH VISIBILITIES OCCASIONALLY BELOW 1
MILE. THE SNOW WILL GRADUALLY DIMINISH AFTER 3 AM.
TRAVEL WILL BE QUITE TREACHEROUS AND IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED.
ROADWAYS...BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES WILL ICE OVER AND THEREFORE
CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS.
CONDITIONS CAN DETERIORATE RAPIDLY IN WINTER WEATHER SITUATIONS, SLOW
DOWN AND ALLOW EXTRA TIME WHEN TRAVELLING. PRACTICE YOUR WINTER
SAFETY RULES, KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT, FOOD, AND WATER IN YOUR CAR

PERIODS OF LIGHT SNOW AND SLEET WILL FALL ACROSS ALL OF SOUTH TEXAS
TONIGHT AS A STRONG UPPER LEVEL LOW CROSSES THE REGION AND FORCES
WARM AND MOIST AIR TO FLOW OVER THE COLD AIR AT THE SURFACE.
ACCUMULATIONS WILL RANGE FROM A DUSTING TO 2 INCHES ACROSS THE RIO
GRANDE PLAINS AND FROM 1 TO 2 INCHES OVER THE COASTAL BEND AND
COASTAL PLAINS. THE PRECIPITATION WILL GRADUALLY BEGIN TO DIMINISH
AFTER MIDNIGHT.
TRAVEL WILL BE DANGEROUS ACROSS SOUTH TEXAS. THEREFORE TRAVEL IS
DISCOURAGED. BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES AS WELL AS SECONDARY ROADWAYS MAY
ICE OVER BRIEFLY AND THEREFORE CAN BE DANGEROUS.
