Today
a Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Beeville Area Food Banks
by Senator Phil Gramm's representative Shannon Breeding. The local food banks
represented were Immaculate Conception Church - Skidmore, First Baptist Church -
Beeville, First United Methodist Church - Beeville, and The
Vineyard - Beeville.
The Vineyard was the first to have a food
distribution in the Beeville area. The program grew and in early 1999 the
Vineyard approached First Baptist Church to secure a larger area for the food
distribution. FBC agreed to assist the Vineyard. After several months of working
together, Brother Mac Robinson, former pastor, and FBC decided to "stand on
our own" as a distribution center. FBC continues to supply food on the
second and fourth Saturday.
Mid 2001 the First United Methodist Church began
a similar food distribution ministry on the third Saturday of each month.
Several other groups, Immaculate Conception in
Skidmore, Helping Hands in Pettus-Tuleta, and the Vineyard continue to
distribute food.
The FBC motto for the food distribution ministry
is, "Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof,
not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready
mind;" 1 Peter 5:2. FBC endeavors to live up to this motto by feeding both
the mind and the body by distributing food and with a short devotional. The
funding for the ministry at FBC is from special offerings at the church
and others in the community.
To participate in the food distribution contact
