Mr. Carlos M. Almendarez age 82 was among Angels on Friday, January 24, 2003 where he was taken into the arms of his Savior.

 Carlos was born on August 15, 1920 in Skidmore, Texas to the Late Mariano Almendarez and Refugia Morales. Mr. Almendarez was a retired building contractor with H.B. Zachary & Brown and Root. Carlos was a faithful catholic, Veteran of the United States Army, Fire Commissioner with the Skidmore Volunteer Fire Department, President of the Evergreen Cemetery and a Member of the Woodmen of The World.

He is survived by his wife; Justa Cerda Almendarez of Skidmore, Texas; two stepdaughters; Justa "Judy" (Agapito Sr.) Rios and Felipa Garza both of San Antonio, Texas; one son; Mando-Alexx Almendarez of Skidmore, Texas and two stepsons; Genaro (Delia) Arismendez Sr. and Tomas Arismendez Sr. both of Skidmore, Texas; two sisters; Dora A. Gonzales of Skidmore, Texas and Soila A. Del Bosque of Houston, Texas; five brothers; Aurelio, Lupe and Martin Almendarez of Skidmore, Texas, Porfirio Almendarez of Houston, Texas and Max Almendarez of Corpus Christi, Texas; 19 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren.

Rosary was held on Sunday, January 26, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Resurrection was held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2003 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Skidmore, Texas with Rev. Patrick Donohoe officiating. Interment was followed at the Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore, Texas with Full Military Honors were held for Mr. Carlos M. Almendarez who proudly defended our Country. Birds of Paradise were released to symbolize the end of a Christian life. The beautiful snow-white birds flew into the Heavens carrying the departed soul of Carlos into the Arms of our Lord . These beautiful snow-white birds symbolized the love that the family had for Carlos, it brought peace of mind, knowing that their lost loved one is now in God’s hands. Pallbearers were Danny Rios Jr., Agapito Rios Jr., Genaro Arismendez Jr., Freddy Arismendez, Mariano Del Bosque and Eddie Gonzales.

Go outside, to the fields, enjoy nature and the sunshine,
go out and try to recapture happiness in yourself and in God.
