Beeville Concert Association from Kay Past The Beeville Concert Association’s membership drive for the 2005-2006 season is underway, with fliers being mailed to former members and new members welcomed, either by BCA workers or by mail. The new season opens Sunday afternoon, Oct. 2 at 3:00 at the Coastal Bend College Gertrude R. Jones Performing Arts Auditorium with a multi-faceted celebration of musical talent from the Beeville area, announced BCA president Kay Past. The First Presbyterian Church Handbell Choir, Ribbon Cane Gospel Band and David Carlson’s Gospel Crossroads Bands are the performing groups on the program. A. C. Jones High School students Sheri Ruter and Lisa Gonzales will play the violin and flute, respectively. Former CBC student Juan Sentíes, now majoring in music at Texas A&M Kingsville, will perform a piano solo and will also accompany from Rosie Maldonado’s Institute of Rising Stars. Carolyn Heizer, former Moreno Junior High School Choir Director will sing, as will Nancy Jones, assistant superintendent of the Beeville Independent School District, accompanied by an interpretive dance by Moreno assistant principal Annette Sánchez. CBC music instructor Linda Switzer and former CBC English instructor Dr. Al Past will play a trumpet duet. Richard Dockery of Three Rivers will play the bagpipe. Mariachi Campanas de America will bring a lively program to Beeville Sunday, Oct 16 in observance of Hispanic Heritage month. In November cellist Alexander Suleiman, one of the outstanding young cellists in the United States, will play a concert, accompanied by Su-Ryeon Ji, a former A. C. Jones High School student whose native country is Korea. Thanks to a grant from the Joe Barnhart Foundation, the Corpus Christi Area Youth Symphony Orchestra, composed of top musicians from 14 to 20 years of age in the South Texas region, will present a concert in the A. C. Jones Auditorium on Thursday, January 26. Victoria’s big band, Sound of Swing, will return by popular demand for a crowd-plasing program on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006. Broadway singer Georga Osbourne will perform cabaret favorites and selections from “Rosemary and Time,” her tribute to Rosemary Clooney, the “first” famous girl singer of her hometown, Maysville Kentucky. San Antonio pianist Joe Rosenthal will conclude the season with a program of classical piano favorites on Sunday, April 9. All this year’s programs, with the exception of the Corpus Christi Youth Symphony, are scheduled for 3:00 pm Sunday afternoons in the Gertrude R. Jones Auditorium. . Season memberships are $35 for adults, with all children through high school age admitted free. CBC students are admitted with their student ID’s through CBC sponsorship. Single tickets at the door are $7 for adults. “Season memberships for the BCA are probably one of the best musical bargains anywhere,” Mrs. Past said. “We can continue to offer them at affordable prices because of the Joe Barnhart Foundation and our local sponsors and friends of the arts. Tickets for any one of these programs would cost $15 or much more at performances in large cities.” Season tickets may be purchased at the Oct. 2 concert, from a BCA volunteer or by mailing in the application printed below. Members who purchase their tickets before the first concert may pick them up at the door on Oct. 2. Individuals or businesses who would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to the BCA may have their names listed on each concert program in the following categories:
“Local contributions will enable the BCA to pay for this year’s concerts and to plan another exciting concert season for 2006-2007,” Mrs. Past explained. * * * * * * * *
